Department of Agriculture - Idaho

Idaho Sheep Producers CODON 171 Genotyping Testing

  • 2006 USDA and ISDA Rules
  • Use form VS-5.29
  • Funding available through September 2006
  • $3.00 payment per sample paid for sample done by an accredited veterinarian.
             Flock owner reponsible for additional fees.
ISDA will pay for:
  • Up to 10 rams per producer
  • Up to 75 ewes or rams per flock that are
    Black faced, smut faced, Southdown or Montedale
    14 months or older
    The owner must agree in writing that any animal test QQ at codon 171 will be made availabe for 3rd eyelid surveillance testing by state or federal personnel.
  • Up to 100 ram lambs for seed stock producers.
    The owner must agree in writing that any ram lamb testing QQ at codon 171 will be castrated or have blue meat tags applied and culled for slaughter.

District II 2006 Docking Rules for 4-H/FFA market lamb projects

Ada

  • 2006 New Rules Adopted
  • Considering a liftable tail dock rule
  • No exact wording at this time

Adams

  • 2006 New Rules Adopted
  • Lamb exhibitors are strongly encouraged not to purchase and exhibit lambs that have been "extreme" or "no tail" docked

Canyon

  • 2006 New Rules Adopted
  • Market lambs must be docked such that the tail (dock) is healed and can be lifted from the exterior
  • Lamb in its free standing position

Elmore

  • 2006 New Rules Adopted
  • Lamb must be dock such that the tail (dock) is healed and can be lifted from the exterior
  • Surgically removed tail vertebrae or redocking are ineligible

Gem/Boise

  • 2006 New Rules Adopted
  • Lambs are required to have a dock length of .7 inches (minimum)
  • Measured by the "De Tail" device

Owyhee

  • 2006 New Rules Adopted
  • Lambs are required to have a dock length of .7 inches (minimum)
  • Measured by the "De Tail" device

Payette

  • 2006 New Rules Adopted
  • Lambs are required to have a dock length of .7 inches (minimum)
  • Measured by the "De Tail" device

Washington

  • 2006 New Rules Adopted
  • Lambs are required to have a dock length of .7 inches (minimum)
  • Measured by the "De Tail" device
  • Recommened length for initial weigh- is 1.4 inches

Valley

  • 2006 New Rules Adopted
  • Tail should be 1 1/8 to 1 1/2 inches long
  • Recommened that lambs' tails not be docked shorter than the level of the distral end of the caudal (rectal) tail folds


Ewe Lamb Payment for Purchase or Retained Animals from


Eligibility criteria:

  • Lambs not older than 18 months of age
  • Animals that have not produced an offspring
  • On a approved scrapie identification program
  • Lambs not possess parrot mouth or foot rot

Payment will be $18.00 per ewe lamb
